Intel
The Trump administration… The Trump administration notified Huawei suppliers, including chipmaker Intel, that it is revoking certain licenses to sell to the Chinese company and intends to reject dozens of other applications to supply the telecommunications company, Reuters' Karen Freifeld and Alexandra Alper report, citing people familiar with the matter. The action - likely the last against Huawei Technologies under Republican President Donald Trump - is the latest in a long-running effort to weaken the world's largest telecommunications equipment maker, which it says is a threat to U.S. national security and foreign policy interests, the authors note. Apple (AAPL) has begun… Apple (AAPL) has begun early work on an iPhone with a foldable screen, a potential rival to similar devices from Samsung (SSNLF) and others, though it's planning only minor changes for this year's iPhone line, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports. The company has developed prototype foldable screens for internal testing, but hasn't solidified plans to actually launch a foldable iPhone, the author notes. The development work hasn't expanded beyond a display, meaning Apple doesn't yet have full handset prototypes in its labs, according to a person familiar with the work. Toll Brothers
Big, new single-family… Big, new single-family houses are looking more inviting as the pandemic puts a premium on living space, Andrew Bary writes in this week's edition of Barron's. As the nation's largest luxury-home builder, Toll Brothers is ideally positioned to take advantage of this shift toward bigger, more expensive housing, the analyst notes, adding that its stock, in contrast to its inventory, is inexpensive. Investors looking to make… Investors looking to make a bet on an industrial bounce back could do worse than buy 3M, Ben Levisohn writes in this week's edition of Barron's. Its stock has dropped 7.9% over the past 12 months, the author notes. But with 3M scheduled to report earnings later this month, the stock could be set for a move higher, he argues. Just over twenty years… Just over twenty years ago, Pat Gelsinger became Intel's (INTC) first-ever chief technology officer and now he is back, with the CEO job he presumably wanted all along, Max Cherney writes in this week's edition of Barron's. Gelsinger has his work cut out for him, the author adds, noting that a series of manufacturing problems at Intel have allowed rivals AMD (AMD) and Nvidia (NVDA) to take share in key chip markets. Gelsinger's appointment is a step in the right direction, but a rebound will still take time, the publication contends. Reference Link ShowHide Related Items >><<

GameStop
Business continues to get… Business continues to get worse for GameStop (GME), with the videogame retailer saying that its holiday sales were down 3.1%, Connor Smith writes in this week's edition of Barron's. Nonetheless, shares rose a stunning 101% on the week. The trigger for the rally seemed to be news Monday that Chewy (CHWY) co-founder Ryan Cohen would be joining GameStop's board of directors, along with two former Chewy executives, the author notes. GameStop was primed for a short squeeze, in which short sellers faced with high borrowing costs and accumulating losses are forced to buy shares to cover their bearish bet, he argues, adding that the rush to buy can lead to nosebleed pops, until reality sets in. W.R. Grace
Wells Fargo analyst… Wells Fargo analyst Michael Sison said W.R. Grace's letter in response to 40 North Management's unsolicited $65 per share offer, which expressed a willingness to discuss a sale and to share additional information with 40 North to support a full valuation, suggests an "increased likelihood of an agreement coming to fruition." The analyst, who would expect more details on the path towards a deal to be supportive of the shares, has an Equal Weight rating on W.R. Grace. ShowHide Related Items >><<
