American Airlines'… American Airlines' regional subsidiary PSA Airlines intends to resume new pilot hiring in 2021, Reuters' Tracy Rucinski reports, citing an internal memo. PSA and other carriers were forced to halt new hiring in 2020 and furlough thousands of workers amid the COVID-19 pandemic, which devastated the air travel sector, Rucinski notes. "As we continue to work with American Airlines to identify our flying needs this year, and in combination with recent attrition numbers for our Pilot group, we will be initiating hiring efforts for First Officer team members," Keith Stamper, vice president of PSA's air operations, said in a January 15 memo. The U.K. is further… The U.K. is further restricting border controls to prevent new strains of the novel coronavirus from entering the country, suspending all the "travel corridor" arrangements that had meant arrivals from certain countries were not required to quarantine, Reuters' William James reports. The change will become effective at 4:00 GMT on Monday, and means all passengers must have a recent negative COVID-19 test and move immediately into isolation upon arrival, James notes. Publicly traded companies in the space include Alaska Air (ALK), American Airlines (AAL), Delta Air Lines (DAL), JetBlue (JBLU), Southwest (LUV), Spirit Airlines (SAVE) and United Airlines (UAL). American Airlines has… American Airlines has told its pilots that they should receive a coronavirus vaccine on their own time while planning a broader voluntary program for worker vaccinations at hubs around the country, Reuters' Tracy Rucinski reports. Vaccines could be ready for Chicago-based employees as soon as mid-February, and potentially sooner in New York, though the airline is not mandating that staff get vaccinated, Rucinski says, citing Jennifer Saddy, managing director of absence management at American. The memo to the pilots called the decision to receive vaccines "personal," the author notes. Reference Link ShowHide Related Items >><<

Susquehanna analyst… Susquehanna analyst Christopher Stathoulopoulos raised the firm's price target on American Airlines to $10 from $8 and keeps a Negative rating on the shares. While he sees an uneven path for airlines turning cash flow positive, the roll-out and uptake of COVID-19 vaccines now drives his investment framework for the space as his base case view includes an improvement in the administration of the vaccines and demand for air travel accelerating in the second half of this year, the analyst tells investors. In the context of his continued expectation for U.S domestic leisure and "visiting friends and relatives" travel to recover first, Stathoulopoulos adjusted his estimates and price targets for airlines ahead of Q4 earnings reporting from the group. As announced earlier,… As announced earlier, JetBlue (JBLU) and American Airlines' (AAL) strategic alliance is moving ahead following review by the Department of Transportation. "Following an approximately six-month review, the DOT has agreed to terminate its review of the alliance in exchange for a series of commitments to ensure the alliance delivers consumers benefits without harming competition. These include growth commitments to ensure capacity expansion, slot divestitures at JFK and at Washington, D.C.'s Reagan National Airport and antitrust compliance measures. Beyond today's agreement with the DOT, the carriers will also be refraining from certain kinds of coordination in city pair markets where they are substantial competitors to each other and there is little service from other airlines," the companies stated. JetBlue (JBLU) and… JetBlue (JBLU) and American Airlines (AAL) announced their strategic alliance is moving ahead following review by the Department of Transportation. "Both carriers will begin implementing key aspects of this innovative and customer-focused alliance in phases, offering more seamless connectivity and better travel choices on routes to and from New York and Boston. The carriers also expect this alliance will accelerate each airline's recovery from the pandemic as customers are attracted to the expansion of options and enhanced service. Important components of the alliance will be introduced starting in the first quarter of 2021 and phased in over the course of the year," the companies stated. "With this alliance, American and JetBlue will operate the biggest network for our customers in the Northeast, which will allow American to grow our mainline operations as we recover from the pandemic. We are already planning to launch new international routes to Athens and Tel Aviv this summer, which are just two of many new routes we plan to launch," added Vasu Raja, American's Chief Revenue Officer.
